520 _aThe family court judge, confronted on a daily basis with the family crises of separation and divorce, needs to expand his methods, especially by turning to family mediation. That tool, which aims to place the family discussion on an adult level, yields a different perspective on the separation of a couple. Obviously, family mediation is not the answer in every situation, but it is worth while acknowledging and using it. It permits the ordinary citizen, regardless of family problems, to be the main actor in his or her own life. It is part of a culture of familial and social peace, of which the child is the main beneficiary.
