520 | _aWe conducted an exploratory study on the choice of first name for transgender people, and more specifically for transgender men. Through the life stories of five participants, we were able to understand, during a meeting, some of the factors at work behind their choice. We discovered that the choice of a transgender man’s first name can reveal a desire to be in line with his filiation, while at the same time revealing a need to break away from the gender of his former name. Therefore, we believe that the choice of a first name allows some transgender men to evolve in their identity construction while perpetuating a desire for historicization. | ||
