The hospitalization of newborn infants represents a major stressor and causes significant anxiety in parents and siblings. Being sensitive to the parental experience, the siblings may experience difficulty in understanding what is happening around them. The support group offers them a space to speak with their parents and to prepare for the meeting with the hospitalized baby. It provides siblings and parents with the opportunity to adjust their mental representations of the baby.
