245 0 0 _aRe-imagining Voltaire’s corpus: The Complete Works of Voltaire (1968-2021)

520 _aThe Complete works of Voltaire published by the Voltaire Foundation in Oxford began in 1968; the collection completes in 205 volumes in 2022. This is the first edition since Kehl (1784-1789) to have completely reconceived the Voltairean corpus; and this is probably the last edition of Voltaire’s complete works to be published in print. The definition of the corpus is complex: if some works attributed to Voltaire are excluded from the edition, others (in particular the Corpus des notes marginales) are included here for the first time. A major innovation with regard to previous editions is that the works are ordered chronologically according to the date of “substantial composition”, regardless of genre. A digital edition, Digital Voltaire, which takes the print edition as its starting-point, is already in preparation.
