520 _aThis study looks into the psychic effects of the menopause in some women. The author insists on the fact that, although it mainly concerns the woman’s body, the phenomenon constitutes a favourable period for the emergence of various forms of psychopathological expression. The subject, approached from a theoretical reflection supported by two clinical vignettes, aims to grapple with the issue that for some women the onset of the menopause may cause a nervous breakdown subtended by a singular complaint, that of not being “able to do the housework like (she) used to”. This complaint would tend to bring these women to address the question of desire in their household, or rather “in their couple”, and bring into question figures of narcissism, of the maternal, the feminine, etc. Thus, the menopause reveals the unconscious issues at work in the conjugal relationship that need to be elaborated within the transfer in order to be sublimated.
