It postulates that the entry onto the scene of online television, including streaming television, does not guarantee a diversity of content and expressions in Africa. To test this hypothesis, the paper selects three countries in French-speaking sub-Saharan Africa that have adopted new texts integrating digital publications: Benin, Senegal, and Côte d’Ivoire. The legal and political analysis of these regulations on the one hand, and the exploratory examination of public and private online television media on the other, allow us to affirm that, for now, online television is neither diverse in linguistic, religious, and ethnic terms, nor balanced on the themes addressed. The paper then pleads for better regulation and better practices that could guarantee digital sovereignty and cultural diversity for African countries. | ||
