520 _aAgainst the backdrop of the profound changes taking place in contemporary journalism, this article examines the role played by the professional practice of fact-checking in France. Based on an in-depth literature review, this article examines the extent to which these transformations—technical, economic, and structural—linked to digital technology have been brought to bear on the news verification units set up by several media outlets. The latter have harnessed the potential offered by digital devices, whether in terms of tools and skills, links with audiences, or the (re)definition of economic and reputational strategies, including the problem of relations with digital giants.
