520 _aBased on an encounter between a service user of Brazilian origin and a socio-administrative agent, we analyze the issues of domination that run through modern French Guianan society: socio-historical dynamics specific to the region and the role of stereotypes in the production of discriminatory practices. The user’s strategies in the face of an experience characterized by humiliation reflect her capacity to distance herself from and resist the assignment of a degrading identity. We offer some proposals on how to train professionals to be more respectful towards users.
