245 0 0 _aThe Role of a Couple’s Relationship in Spousal Support to Female Entrepreneurs

520 _aThis article deals with the nature and level of support a spouse provides to female entrepreneurs based on an original theoretical framework in management sciences, namely the marriage contract theory, which gave rise to the theory of the psychological contract. Based on our analysis of 12 cases of female entrepreneurship in Scandinavia, we suggest four possible configurations based on this theory and the respective perceptions of two spouses concerning the division of roles based on sex in society. We argue not only that the quality of the relationship has a clear impact on the nature of the spouse’s support for female entrepreneurship, but also that female entrepreneurship can either improve or deteriorate the relationship based on the configurations established.
