Based on his clinical experience working with adopted children and adolescents, the author of this paper discusses aspects of the paternal filiation in this particular situation. He examines the process of becoming a father and the paternal function in general and as they develop during the pre-adoption psychological assessments. This paper stresses the specificity linked to the reduction of the difference between father and mother due to the absence of pregnancy. It concludes by discussing some issues that tend to emerge during adolescence.
