520 _aThe terms “norms” and “normality” call on psychoanalysis insofar as it is part of the general framework of discourse. As Foucault demonstrated, norms are part of the logics of power. Whereas norms call to mind normative psychological devices, psychoanalysis demonstrates that they serve to set in motion the signifiers of the master discourse. Psychoanalysis views normality differently, bringing to light the master-signifiers that alienate the subject rather than focusing on normality-abnormality.
