520 _aThis is an ethnographical study of 15 year old pupils studying drama courses in a Nantes secondary school. The article focuses upon a new school discipline in France – the theatre – and it considers the differences between the conventions of Academia and that of theatre. The observations made in the classroom (both rituals and methods of delivery of this new discipline) show that the system of values, which are unique to the educational environment, work surprisingly well within the artistic world.
