520 _aThis article offers an ecocritical reading of Captain Cook’s Journals written during his three circumnavigations. It focuses on the British imperial agenda of the politics of transplantation within the context of Pacific exploration and encounters with indigenous populations. The nature of transnational exchanges and contacts between members of the crews and Pacific islanders through collecting, planting and transplanting is reassessed in light of postcolonial and environmental studies.
