Public debates around the French national vaccine campaign to counter the COVID-19 pandemic have confirmed the unique relationship that Pasteur’s nation has with vaccines, or more precisely with vaccine policy. This article describes the historical foundations of this French singularity, its networks of influence, and its systemic causes, as well as providing insights into geographical variations within the country.
