520 _aThis article analyzes the violent controversy which developed, in the course of several years, about the diffusion of pictures of the death of a Palestinian child by the French Second Channel, in September 2000. This controversy is peculiar by its audiences (in the French Jewish world and, marginally, in the US), and by the vectors of mobilization (mainly Internet, but with the avowed aim of enrolling mainstream media and the judicial system in calling into question the journalist and the channel). It constitutes a complex form of public debate, where the social and professional identities of the actors involved is built, or built anew, by the circulation of representations and arguments.
