520 _aNGOs are a cornerstone in resolving the conflicts which broke out in South Caucasus after the collapse of the Soviet empire. Unfortunately, the processes underway towards the resolution and prevention of the cultural and political conflicts in the region have mainly been implemented by the States themselves, while the role of NGOs is notoriously downplayed. Their action must therefore be promoted by fostering projects which will encompass ever wider spheres of intervention, be they economical or cultural.
