520 | _aWe are promised a large quantity of virtual reality helmets for the general public to be launched from the beginning of year 2016. A number of people fear that these new technical devices will accelerate the dehumanizing process attributed to the exponential growth in the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT): By enclosing users in a bubble, VR helmets might increase the lack of communication between human beings, as well as between human beings and nature and human beings and the world. However, due to a confluence of social, aesthetic, anthropological and neuroscientific parameters, we can hope on the contrary that the sensorial experience which users will live when using VR helmets will upset the hierarchy of senses imposed in our Western civilizations. The experience might lead users to reconnect with all their senses, including the most neglected ones. It would then profoundly modify their ways of being in the world. | ||
