520 _aThis article focuses on in situ heritagization as a field of cultural, memorial, and political action concerning the material traces of a past Jewish presence in Egypt. It explores the initiatives and challenges involved in including Jewish heritage within Egyptian national heritage, in a context where the Jewish presence has almost disappeared from the country. These efforts are currently led by the international association Nabi Daniel, and involve various local and transnational actors. Their activities focus on the necessary conditions for preserving this cultural heritage and its transformation into sites of cultural tourism and showcases of Egyptian “tolerance.”
