245 0 0 _aCharacteristics and Determinants of Female Informal Employment in Algeria: The Case of Bejaia
260 _c2014.
500 _a12
520 _aWe examine female activity in Algeria according to a sample of 783 economically active women drawn from a household survey conducted in Bejaia in 2012. By means of a multinomial logit model and a series of earnings functions, we identify the determinants of access and earnings of women in the different segments of the labor market (formal and informal). A low education level increases the likelihood of entering the informal sector, which confirms the hypothesis of segmentation of the labor market and emphasizes the existence of a subsistence segment within the informal sector.
