520 _aThe current revival of mediation is a relatively recent phenomenon, which explains why it is in progress as a mode of social regulation and there is still a lack of conceptual clarity around the very notion of mediation. For these reasons, the issue of training mediators is of critical importance in controlling the new approach or market which mediation represents. It is an issue not only for mediators who want to make it their entire profession, but also for other players, such as legal or social professionals, who want to integrate this new function into the scope of their action. Such stakes largely explain the rivalries of power between the various actors in the field of mediation to determine the content and duration of training and define the methods of mediator certification and accreditation.
