520 _aThe architectural thought of Peter Zumthor, one of the greatest contemporary architects (recipient of the Pritzker Prize in 2009), is one of the most compelling of our time. Far from any theoretical sensationalism, he develops a genuine way of thinking about architecture, making "atmosphere" out of his essential determinant. Against the oblivion of history that constitutes the modernist thought, he seeks to "retrieve" architecture by exploring the biographical and contextual data that found it. This article is focused on highlighting essential components of this thought.
