This article looks at the relationship that this type of ornament has with the scene depicted, from Gauguin’s work, where it has a symbolic function, to Vuillard’s, where it is so omnipresent that it becomes a real subject. This new relationship thus proves that decorative art does indeed play a key role in modern painting. | ||
