Those at the bottom of the social ladder perceive the war as being the business of others. These “others” include the West, the neighboring countries, the Congolese elite, and the province of Kivu. The people have nevertheless become engaged in the war, such that it has become one of their central concerns. We can observe at the same time the reinvention and transformation of figures of power and the trajectories of social mobility. | ||
