520 _aBased on our experience in a French center for treating, supporting, and preventing addiction, we will question the links between alcohol and domestic violence. Starting from the widespread idea that it is alcohol that causes violence through its pharmacological effects, we will see, through the experimental studies of social psychology and sociology, that this problem is more complex and that other factors are involved. The chapter on domestic violence will allow us to approach this problem from a psychological point of view, considering what it carries within it as destructive and annihilating. Finally, we will focus on the gendered aspect of alcohol consumption, to see how collective representations, taken up on the individual psychic level, can participate and nourish, among other things, the construction of a sexual self-image.
