520 | _aAs opposed to Pierre Bourdieu’s definition of symbolic violence from an objectivist point of view (i.e. that put forward by a scholar who unveils a mechanism that the actors themselves ignore), this same violence is here considered as a phenomenon that becomes real only through the subjective suffering created in the victims. After the identification of the nature of this suffering (an identity wound that undermines self-esteem), two major forms of symbolic violence are analysed: the first one is the result of disparaging discourses and practices, whether they be intentional or not; the second one is caused by a shaking of the identity references on which self-esteem was based. | ||
