520 _aWorking on cinema is significant about Siegfried Kracauer's orientations and way of thinking, marked by the fading era of pre-Nazism and Nazism. His analysis is to be contextualized as the observation of technical, scientific and urban development before World War II but also of capitalism as a whole. That is why Kracauer's privileged focus is the city with all its influx, its spectacles or "adornments" and its dominations, of which movies are one type of analyzers. The concept is not for the author to see in movie development the reflection of society, of its fears and ideologies, but to consider it as an ideology adapting to the needs of its clients and molding them in the meanwhile. From the ornamental society, linked to the "cult of entertainment" to the movie technique as an analyzer of political forms, here lies Kracauer's ambitious analytical project.
