520 _aIs the internet a vector for emancipation, socialisation and democratisation or, on the contrary, a pathological process of alienation and social and political deconstruction ? If this question has received diverse and contradictory answers, they all seem to be articulated around the idea of the emergence of a new virtual sociality and the portion it devolves to gift, gratuity and recognition. Are we assisting to the apotheosis of the spirit of gift through the sharing of all with all online or, on the contrary, to its dilution within the immediateness of communication ? Does virtual sociality cohabit, break or transcend other types of social relations (reciprocity and functionality) ? This article suggests a pragmatic and theoretical albeit partial diagnosis of digital liaisons by distinguishing between three types of virtual gift : pure gift, regenerated agonistic gift, and transparent quid pro quo.
