520 _aThe history of the creation of memorial parks in Communist Yugoslavia is explored through the commemoration of soldiers and civilians killed during World War Two and the processes for “memorializing” key places in the history of the Yugoslav Resistance or the struggle for national liberation. This analysis of the historical events that have marked the country pursues a twofold objective: bring to light the problems and symptoms that post-Communist societies have experienced and help renew the study of memorial parks (which are taken to be a major component of the Communist legacy) thanks to a more objective approach to these monuments and their promotion.
