| 520 | _aThis article offers a reading of various texts by the Jesuit Jacques Sommet analysing the experience of the typhus epidemic in the concentration camp at Dachau between the end of 1944 and the liberation of April 1945. This reading highlights the resources and the process of commitment, discernment, decision, and action which result in a desire to accompany the suffering until the end, that is, “to live as people truly alive, in order to help the dying to die like those who are alive.” For its part, focused on the universal value of an incomparable experience, this emphasis sheds light on our current ways of thinking and acting in times of trial, particularly in times of pandemic, by identifying some criteria for combining ethics, mysticism, and a politics of care. | ||
