520 _aItaly has one of the longest durations of judicial proceedings in European countries, both in civil and criminal cases. The Italian National Recovery and Resilience Plan, approved by the European Commission, requires Italy to achieve binding targets and milestones in judicial proceedings in order to receive the European funds to be also used in the other areas covered by the EU Recovery and Resilience Facility. The Italian Government has developed a strategy to pursue these mandatory targets. This article addresses two of the main actions in the strategy; the reform of the codes of civil and criminal procedure and, the establishment of the “judge’s bureau”.
