520 _aBased on the work of T. Kuhn, the author differentiates the notion of paradigm from that of a model. The psychosomatic paradigm is constituted by the inverse relationship between the risk of somatisation and the quality of mental functioning, as established by P. Marty ; it forms a "theoretical fiction" as the term was defined by N. Loraux and the philosopher, B. Williams. Some aspects of the model which follow from this are examined critically in this article.
