520 _aFreud's discovery shows that there are several types of memory. Clinical practice presents us with a range of phenomena and mnemic forms, as well as with a complex relationship between the "accuracy" of the traumatic event and the inevitable inaccuracy of how it is reconstituted in the treatment. The analytic dimension therefore confronts us either with the "memory" of what has happened to the subject or, even more radically, with the memory of things that it has never (yet) been possible to experience. In other words, the question in this case is always: how the past can be constructed.
