520 | _aBecause they are deeply heterodox, some of Ferenczi’s technical propositions formed the object of a deep theoretico-practical disagreement with Freud. This conflict, which concerned their theory of childhood trauma, was due to the fact that Ferenczi—confronted with countertransference difficulties encountered during the analytic work with some complex clinical circumstances—was suggesting that an analyst can truly adopt the position of a ‘tender mother’ towards his patient. This author argues that by proceeding in this way, Ferenczi, in his furor sanandi, was primarily seeking to indicate the possible pathways for trying to show the patient the analyst’s trustworthiness as well as his capacities for containment. | ||
