520 _aThe psychoanalytic concept of scenic understanding, well known in Germany, is commented on and illustrated with the help of vivid examples. The reference to its founders, Hermann Argelander and Alfred Lorenzer, throws light on its development; its later develop-ments are also described. A relationship is established, moreover, between scenic understand-ing and two other concepts which are different but related by virtue of their content: that of container/contained in the Bionian model on the one hand, and that of psychanalytic psycho-drama developed in France on the other.
