520 _aA child is first and foremost the child of a family, with its cultural imprints, its linguistic customs and its representations or educational practices. Building the link between the school and the families, around a pupil and the child he is, is never easy. When families have migrated, the exile particularly challenges their reference points and their previous mode of parenting. The teachers’ own representations must be reexamined in the face of these foreign parents who question their relationship to alterity and their way of considering the family/school link. This synthesis text proposes to show how parents’ relations with the school are made more complex by a lack of familiarity with the social and cultural codes of the host country on the one hand, and by the non-recognition of their cultural and linguistic roots on the other.
