520 | _aMarine protected areas are one of the most well-known approaches to marine ecosystem conservation. Nevertheless, their effectiveness depends directly on their level of governance. In Brazil, a type of protected area that reconciles natural resource extraction by traditional extractivist communities with environmental preservation puts the question of Ostromian governance at the heart of its management. The participation of locals and their desire to continue to survive on these natural resources require the adoption of a high level of governance and collective action. Thus, we ask how marine extractivist reserves (RESEXs) have institutionalized the Ostromian framework of governance for a commons. First, we look at how the Brazilian conservation system has integrated Ostromian principles and then we analyze how marine RESEXs institutionalize the idea of the commons. | ||
