The present article examines these places in two works by Zofia Romanowicz, Ravensbrück. Wiersze obozowe [Ravensbrück. Poems from the Camp], published in Poland in 1961, and Próby i zamiary [Attempts and Trials], published in London in 1965. These works are considered as matrices of the locations in the novels. The similarities between the places in both works and in later novels is also analyzed, as well as the use of closed and open places to create mythical locations that serve as the settings for the characters’ existential dramas.
