520 _aThe case of Ziahi shows that in the heterosexual married couple, the wife's desire to find a place in the socio-professional world is not always accepted by the husband, who consequently exerts a form of domestic violence towards his wife. This links up with the field of research into pathologies in the marital relationship. This article makes use of the qualitative method of case studies and draws on interview techniques. The results shows how the husband denies his wife's personal desires and needs, and thus otherness in the couple. He exerts a visible psychological ascendancy over her through forms of psychological and economic violence. This situation generates symptoms of anxiety in the wife, the meaning of which is to be found in the knot of the dysfunctioning of the couple's relationship.
