520 _aKarl Rahner’s theology lies within the tradition of Catholic theology of the classical Jesuit school, but seeks to broaden and topicalize it by multiplying the sources he utilizes and through a dialogue with contemporary thought. Reception of this theology begins in the university framework and goes on to grow in theological debate thanks to pertinent publications and comes to be recognized on a larger scale through theological networks (religious orders, working groups), scientific projects (lexica, manuals), as well as spiritual writings. The major event represented by Vatican II was to make it known on an international level and the importance of his theology is also revealed by international research into his work.
