520 _aThe Al-Tahrir newspaper was created in Spring 2011 in the exhilaration of the revolution and it was presented as the successor of the famous Al-Dustur daily (a symbol of the resistance against Hosni Mubarak’s regime). It has since lost most of the journalists who worked at Al-Dustur during its heyday in the 2000s. Following numerous resignations, internal conflicts and financial losses, Al-Tahrir now seems to be weighed down by the problems of a press which nonetheless played a central part in the Egyptian revolution. This paper aims at studying the rise of the private press and the crisis it is currently undergoing through the story of the Al-Tahrir newspaper and its journalists. The author examines the case of the Al-Dustur / Al-Tahrir newspaper, hoping to shed light on the workings of the private press in Egypt.
