520 _aThis paper aims to recall some of the main reflections of Walter Benjamin's media theory, with reference to the philosopher's intuitions on the role of photography and cinematographic art. The aim of the text is to argue about the relationship between mediology and humanity in the light of the changes in the contemporary digital environment. Particular attention is paid to the Meta project presented by Mark Zuckerberg, recognized as an emblematic case of the passage from a network conceived as a place of citizenship of the obscene and the irregular to a network that has become an extreme form of institutionalization.
