520 _a“From deviance to variance”: we borrow this phrase from Neyrand (2001) because it summarizes in a few words the evolution of research on post-divorce families, which is itself, no doubt, dependent on social changes. We propose here to discuss the main trends from the second half of the twentieth century to the present day. With the deviances of these families having previously been highlighted, it is now essential to understand their variances. In passing, we question the loss of meaning of the deficit comparison approach and the danger of research from the clinic.
