520 _aIn the 16th and the 17th centuries, the administrative organization of the French state was based on the offices. Significant modifications happened in that period, from the setting-up of parties casuelles in 1522 to the ratification of the 1604 edict. From 1522 onwards, the nature of offices will change because of the necessities for the state to fund its wars. A commodification process of these state apparatuses occurred at this time. This article brings to the fore the simultaneous eruption of the financialization of the state finances and the ongoing development of the state. The French case is particular because of the symbiotic relationship between financialization and form of the state, grasped in the Regulationist framework.
