520 _aThe paper recalls the efforts, especially in Egypt, to educate girls since the beginning of the 20th century. It brings up the problems concerning the study of women’s issues. But above all, it discusses the fact that the future of women, taken in hand by men, was linked to the question of modernity and that the difficulties and the collapse of the values modernism brought, like feminism, blocked change and maintained women even more in dependence. It hopes for a policy of emancipation of both women and men.
