520 | _aPrivate commercial institutions for dependent elderly people (EHPAD) account for 22 percent of the 600,000 beds in nursing homes in France. They accommodate a slightly larger population than the average for the sector. Their accommodation costs are on average €18 per day higher than those of EHPADs run by voluntary-sector organizations. This difference is mainly due to the tax structure and the cost of real estate. Their contribution has been to broaden the provision of care offered to the solvent part of the population without recourse to public investment aid. | ||
