| 520 | _aRésuméÀ partir des années soixante-dix, les pays émergents se sont engagés dans des politiques de libéralisation financière en vue de favoriser la croissance. Or ces politiques peuvent avoir des effets défavorables sur la stabilité des systèmes bancaires. L’hypothèse centrale de cet article est que leur impact sur la stabilité du système bancaire dépend largement des modalités de la libéralisation. L’analyse porte sur un échantillon de vingt-deux pays émergents au cours de la période 1970-2002. Après une revue de la littérature, cet article présente une typologie des politiques de libéralisation mises en œuvre par ces pays. Ensuite, en utilisant la méthode logit, il analyse l’influence sur les crises bancaires des politiques de libéralisation, différenciées selon le degré de libéralisation, l’ordre de priorité et le rythme de mise en place des réformes.Classification JEL : F37 ; G15 ; C33. | ||
| 520 | _aStarting from the late 1970’s, the emerging countries engaged in financial liberalization policies in order to promote growth. However, these policies may have adverse effects on the banking system stability. The central assumption of this article is that the impact of liberalization on banking systems stability depends crucially on the process of liberalization. This analysis relates to the recent episodes of banking instability on a sample of 22 emerging countries during the period 1970-2002. After a review of the literature, this article presents a typology of the policies of liberalization. Then, by using the logit method, we analyze the influence on banking crises of the policies of liberalization, differentiated according to the degree of liberalization, the sequencing and the timing of implementation of the reforms.
