Cet article propose un examen de la littérature anglophone sur le sujet, en rendant compte de ses principaux débats théoriques. Ceux-ci sont relatifs à l’usage de la cartographie occidentale par les peuples autochtones, en le considérant tantôt comme un instrument d’« empowerment », tantôt comme un outil d’assimilation culturelle. Ces aspects sont examinés à la lumière d’une expérience de cartographie réalisée par les Mapuches au Chili. | ||

This article reviews recent developments on the subject in English-language literature. It gives also an account of the main theoretical debates, which consider the use of Western mapping by indigenous peoples either as an instrument of empowerment and decolonisation or as a source of cultural assimilation. These aspects are examined in the light of an experiment in indigenous mapping performed by the Mapuche people in Chile. | ||
