Dans une étude interculturelle comparative, portant sur 1 143 enfants âgés de 4 à 15 ans, à Bali, Bénarès, Katmandou et Genève, nous trouvons que le cadre géocentrique prédomine même chez de jeunes enfants (4 à 6 ans) et se renforce avec l’âge. L’espace restreint est organisé par un système d’orientation spatiale à large échelle et ceci même dans un espace fermé où il n’y a aucun indice spatial externe. Trois situations provoquant du langage spatial et trois épreuves d’encodage spatial sont utilisées. Une comparaison avec des enfants de Genève montre que nous sommes en présence d’un chemin de développement qui n’existe pas dans les sociétés occidentales. | ||

Small-scale, table-top space is organised according to a large-scale spatial orientation system and this even indoors where no external spatial cues are available.
