Organisés dans Manhattan et Brooklyn, ces concours très attendus témoignent du rapport nostalgique de la communauté française à certains motifs de la culture populaire qu’elle a perdus en s’installant aux États-Unis. Le pari de faire rentrer toute la « France de son enfance » dans un concours de boules reflète l’intensité des motivations sous-jacentes et permet de créer des liens nouveaux avec la Provence comme horizon.

Organized in Manhattan and Brooklyn, these highly anticipated competitions demonstrate the nostalgic link between members of the French community and some patterns of popular culture they lost after settling in United States. The desire to situate one’s entire childhood in France into a pétanque competition reflects the intensity of the underlying motivations and allows the creation of new Provence-related links.

Diese ungeduldig erwarteten Wettkämpfe, die in Brooklyn und Manhattan ausgerichtet werden, zeugen vom nostalgischen Verhältnis der französischen Gemeinschaft zu bestimmten Elementen der Populärkultur, die sie durch ihre Immigration in die USA aufgeben musste.
