520 _aWe will read, following the articles in this issue, two texts by Jean Jaurès. The first is an article published in L’Humanité on November 24, 1906, under the title “L’indemnité parlementaire et les frais électoraux” (The parliamentary allowance and election expenses). It outlines the content of an original reform: critical of the procedure followed to increase the amount of the parliamentary allowance, but in favour of this measure, Jaurès intends to add a levy to be paid by the deputies from their future allowance, which would be added to an electoral fund. The latter, also funded by the State, would make the “election free of charge”. The second text is an intervention by Jaurès in the “Chambre des deputes” on 30 November 1906, in which he reiterated and developed the arguments in favour of his proposal.
